As everyone probably knows already, there has been a military coup in Thailand. This may seem surprising to many people, but the fact is that this is not the first time it has happened. Here is a list of them, so don’t be surprised if, say, in 5 years, something like this happens again. Don’t worry, though. Many people think this is a dangerous incident, but truthfully, it is quite peaceful. The pro-coup military’s just there so that if some in the military who are loyal to PM Thaksin decide to do something disruptive, they will be able to take care of it. The people in general should not be greatly affected by it, though some will probably inconvenienced by being unable to access certain areas (which are mostly government buildings and such–a very small area really). I’ve been through a coup myself (in 1992) and nothing happened to us even though, in that coup, some protesters were shot to death. We were just encouraged to not go out as much, but our lives were never in danger (if we weren’t joining the protesters). That’s free speech for you in Thailand–you can say anything you want, but a bullet might be heading your way. My personal opinion regarding this is that military coups should never happen or at least should be reserved for most extreme cases (like you found out the Prime Minister is carrying out a plan of genocide or something). Other than that, politics should just be.
Anyways, here’s an interesting picture:

The sign says “Be careful of the cars from the left. There have been many accidents at this intersection. Please use caution.” Well, folks, looks like we’re at that intersection again…
